Horry County Officials manage motorcycle rally behavior

Horry County Council, South Carolina, takes another step toward taming behavior at the May motorcycle events. The council this week gave its initial approval to a ban on the temporary adult entertainment licenses, the permits required for hosting any activity including nudity, such as baring breasts.

The ban still faces a second and third reading, but the unanimous vote this week on first reading suggests the council sees no problems in approving this ordinance.

Cracking down on nudity - actually, the event permits that allow it - at establishments where motorcyclists hang out needs to be put in the context of the other steps in the making to ratchet down the motorcycle rallies to make them more bearable for local residents.  Prior initiatives include:

The impending town of Atlantic Beach's decision not to sponsor Bikefest.

Revised and toughened Myrtle Beach laws specifically directed at motorcycles and riders, including the new helmet law.

The county's own attempt to shorten the rallies to six days by means of limiting vendors permits east of the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway.
