When Harley-Davidson’s Board of Directors and Senior Management decided to discontinue manufacturing Buell motorcycles October 14th of 2009, how many of us thought that was the last we would hear of Erik Buell? We didn’t!
Here is a brief chronology of Erik Buell's motorcycle related activity since the Harley-Davidson decision.
Buell establishes Erik Buell Racing - Following Harley-Davidson’s recent decision to discontinue the Buell motorcycle product line, Erik Buell, Chairman and Chief Technical Officer of Buell Motorcycle Company, will leave the company to establish Erik Buell Racing, an independent motorcycle race shop. Buell establishes a race bike - Based on the 1125R and 1125RR, the 1190RR brings engine displacement close to the AMA American Superbike class limit for twins and the WSB limit overall. Eric Buell Racing Press Release - Mar 1, 2010


Erik Buell introduces us to the newest Buell motorcycle at the Dealer Expo in Indianapolis. It is built for the road and plans are to manufacture only 100 of these elite bikes for $39,995 during the first year.
The 1190RS carries a 1190cc Rotax engine built to Erik Buell Racing’s specifications, and features a “fuel-in-frame concept, newly-designed magnesium wheels, and Ohlins suspension and braking components. EPA testing is done and now completing the paperwork.
