Ron Hornaday, three time NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Champion and twice voted most popular driver, recently took delivery of his 2009 Indian Chief Vintage at Indian Motorcycle Charlotte, the first Indian dealer in the nation. Chris Bernauer, general manager of Indian Motorcycle Company and Mark Moses, owner and general manager of Indian Motorcycle Charlotte, were on hand to congratulate the new owner on his choice.
“As a popular, respected and very successful race driver, Ron Hornaday could have any bike he wants. We’re thrilled that he chose the Indian Chief”, said Chris Bernauer.
Ron gave a glowing review of the motorcycle and shared his reasons for owning one. He noted the craftsmanship, classic design, power, fit, and ride as being determining factors in his choice. Ron stressed the appeal of an American made motorcycle, while emphasizing the company’s first class one-on-one customer service and pride demonstrated by dealer and technical experts providing him with the assurance that he made the right choice.
While racing at Daytona, this past weekend, Ron proudly shared his new Indian with friends and colleagues who enthusiastically endorsed the Indian’s superior handling characteristics.
As time allows, Ron and his wife hit the open roads with a few friends. They both feel the responsiveness, maneuverability, and comfort of the Indian sets a standard for touring bikes.
Ron Hornaday’s top-of-the-line black & burgundy Vintage was built to his specifications and features optional painted rims, black leather saddlebags and seat with fringed leather. Hornaday said “This is one beautiful bike and I’m looking forward to getting out and doing more riding. I’ve owned lots of motorcycles over the years, but this one is very special…a great combination of power and classic design. ”
While reflecting on his new Indian, Hornaday mentioned that one of his favorite photos is that of his father seated on an Indian Chief, just before he sold it to go into the Army in the late sixties. He acknowledged the nostalgia of owning a motorcycle of the same brand ridden by his dad many years ago. (Ron Hornaday Sr., a racing legend in the West Coast Stock Car Racing community, passed away just before Christmas last year).
I had a strong impression that Ron would have liked to share his new family treasure with his dad.
Indian Motorcycle was founded in 1901 in Springfield, Massachusetts, and is universally recognized as America’s First Motorcycle. Today’s Indian Motorcycle Company is located at Kings Mountain, North Carolina. 2009 Indian Chiefs are all new, and as a high-end premium cruiser, production numbers will be limited to maintain exclusivity.
