Freedom-Wings: Fully Adjustable Fairing Vent System

Rarely, has our staff concluded that a particular accessory is a must have for everyone. However, Freedom-Wings adjustable fairing vent system are a must have for everyone owning a fairing mounted Harley-Davidson model motorcycle. Regardless of environmental conditions, rotating the Freedom Wings changes the direction of air flow, and has the effect of cooling a hot engine while cooling the rider and passenger, making your ride much more enjoyable.

 

In the closed position, cool air is directed away from the driver and passenger. In the open position, air is directed toward the driver, passenger, and motor. The result is that heat from the engine is displaced with air which may be warm, but still feels many degrees cooler than the hot engine air on a hot day.  

 

A set of Freedom-Wings come neatly packaged in a cardboard container approximately 10 inches by 13 inches by ½ inch. The Wings are fully assembled and ready to install on your Harley-Davidson.

 

Packaging includes rubber and flat washers – 2 each – to be placed on the upper mounting screws on both sides of the motorcycle. The purpose of the rubber washer is to create a dampening effect on vibration caused by V-twin operation, and to compensate for the slight increase in angle between the two fairing screws.   

 

 

Freedom-Wings are designed for the following Harley-Davidson models:  1996 or later Electra Glide Standard (FLHT), Electra Glide Classic (FLHTC), and Ultra Electra Glide (FLHTCU).

 

Freedom-Wings are constructed of polycarbonate and steel components along with a calibrated nylon friction hinge. They are approximately the same size and shape as the Harley-Davidson air deflectors, and you can choose between black, clear and smoked colors. They are durable and resistant to damage from weather or impact. 

 

Freedom-Wings are easily installed utilizing instructions packaged with each set. Installation consists of 4 easy steps:

 

 

1.       Remove the three screws that attach the air deflectors on either side of the fairing.   Retain the screws.  

2.       Position the right side (from the riding position) Freedom Wing over mounting holes or the first and second mounting holes in the fairing. Insert two of the screws and loosely tighten.

3.       Push the Freedom-Wing upward and toward the fairing with slight pressure to achieve an even distance between the Freedom-Wing and fairing. Gently turn the wing to the open and closed positions to check for smooth operation. When the Freedom-Wing is in the correct position, tighten the mounting screws. Repeat these steps for the left side of you motorcycle.

4.       After the installation is complete, rotate handlebars to the far right and left to be sure the wings do not interfere with the fuel tank or any other components of your motorcycle. 

 

You are now ready to experience the comforting effects of this variable adjusting vent system.  

 

Drivers can adjust each wing individually, and they can be adjusted incrementally to force air to “hot spots” for maximum benefit.  They will maintain the position set by the driver.

 

 

We experimented with our Freedom-Wings on a 2300 mile four day ride in temperatures ranging from 38 degrees to 95 degrees, under sunny skies, with a substantial 75 MPH head wind, and during a down pour. Six hundred miles of the trip were during a steady rain. While traveling from Las Cruces, New Mexico to Phoenix, Arizona, we were bombarded with bugs the size of forty-four caliber bullets. Scrutiny of this venting system at the end of our ride revealed that the Wings were no worse for the wear. They survived, functioned just as planned, and, after removing the bugs and other road residue, look as good as new!

 

We have every reason to believe the Freedom-Wings will withstand many miles of summer, fall, spring, and winter driving. There was no indication that the purpose for which the Freedom-Wings were designed was compromised during our first 2300 miles using this “adjustable fairing vent system.”

Affordability is an individual choice. However, if you want to add a venting system that you can depend on for durability, that looks good, and really makes a difference in your riding comfort, we think this is an excellent value.
