Tap2Pass, a Cycle Matters' Editor product reviewJanuary 31, 2013
Introduction
Tap2Pass, a catchy name for a quality product, is a new product introduced by F2P Technologies (F2P). Approximately 12 years ago F2P created a way for motorcyclists to open their garage door without leaving the seat of their motorcycles, and without a remote control device. All that is needed to open an overhead door is to flash the motorcycle’s headlight to high beam and the door would open. As motorcyclists, you know this is huge because you no longer had to worry about locating and/or losing the remote. Convenience after a long ride became a non-issue. Tap to pass accomplishes the same thing using a smart phone. First Impression
Now everyone in the family, with a smart phone, can have their own remote.
F2P, the long-time manufacturer of Flash2Pass™, a wireless remote garage opener, responded to growing customer demands for keypad entry to garage doors and gates by launching the innovative Tap2Pass™. With the simple installation of the Tap2Pass™ receiver along with the Tap2Pass™ app, it converts a smart phone into a remote garage door opener. Features
The Tap2Pass™ receiver can be used with as many as 7 smart phones and up to 24 vehicles (cars, trucks, motorcycles, golf carts and ATVs, etc.) equipped with the Flash2Pass™ receiver, available for purchase separately. The receiver works with almost all automatic garage doors and gate openers manufactured since 1982, including those powered by AC, DC, and solar energy. Tap2Pass™ is equally successful with newer models that incorporate smart panels. Utilizing Bluetooth technology, the Tap2Pass™ promotes garage door safety since the garage door or gate should be in view when activation occurs. Summer generally brings heightened traffic in and out of garages with increased use of motorcycles, bicycles and other outdoor equipment. “Everyone in the family can have their own remote, right at their fingertips.” Operation/Application
The Tap2Pass is made up of a Smart Phone with App (downloaded and installed) and a receiver. The Flash2Pass receiver is designed to operate inside your garage. It has a push button to open the door from within the garage, or it can be installed next to your original pushbutton and “piggybacked” to it. Installation of the receiver (anywhere in the garage took approximately one-half hour. Installation is an easy do-it-yourself project and shouldn’t take more than 15 minutes using just a screwdriver. Full install instructions are included with the Tap2Pass™ receiver. The receiver was hardwired to the power unit by running a wire from the power unit along the ceiling and wall to the mounting plate, located on the wall just inside the overhead door. There are two wires to connect to the terminals – either wire to either terminal. Once wires are connected, snap the front of the receiver to its back plate. When power is restored, an LED light will blink indicating the receiver is activated. The Tap2Pass™ receiver, along with the free Tap2Pass™ app, is designed to turn your iPhone, iPod Touch or Android powered phone into a remote for your automatic garage door or gate opener. The Apple iPhone and iPod Touch app is available by searching app store for Tap2Pass. Android app is available in Google Play. Search apps for Tap2Pass. Once installed, simply tap a 4-digit pin and you open or close your garage or gate. There is no need for a separate remote control or walking to an external keypad for access. An Android-powered smart phone, iPod or iPhone are all you need. Utilizing the Bluetooth capability of the iOS or Android platform, F2P created a keypad entry right on the device screen. Simply tap in your 4 digit PIN and the door or gate is activated. Bluetooth technology was chosen as internet access is not required for accessing remote gates or doors, and as a safety feature, since the garage door or gate should always be in sight when activation occurs. The four digit PIN makes entry quick and easy as well as safe as it is an extra layer of security in the event the device is lost or stolen. Value
The Tap2Pass™ can be purchased from Tucker Rocky or directly online at www.F2Ptechnologies.com for $129.95. If in the unlikely event a customer is dissatisfied, products purchased from F2P will be fully refunded within 30 days of purchase. We found the Tap2 Pass to work flawlessly so we think it is a great product. Rating
